March 21st, 2013 - London Trip
London Eye
We didn't have as much time in London as we had planned but we made the best of it, so that just means I'll have to go back at some point in my life! On Monday evening, we didn't get to our hostel, St. Christopher's, until around midnight so we ended up taking it easy and just hanging out in the bar inside our hostel.
On Tuesday, we decided to do a double decker bus tour! Well...it didn't go exactly as planned...The bus was supposed to take us to all the big sites (Big Ben, London Bridge, Buckingham Palace) but we started to go outside of London into what looked like a suburban neighborhood and the bus stopped in the middle of it. After about 10 minutes of waiting, we finally go down to speak to the bus driver and he was startled to see us because apparently he was supposed to tell us to get off at a different stop because he was going on his break...well we made the best of it and took lots of videos and photo while we waited for him to take his break. We finally arrived at Big Ben and took loads of photos along the bridge. We had the best weather while we were there so it made it so much nicer. We walked through Westminster Abbey, saw the Buckingham Palace (which by the way, wasn't as impressive as I thought it was going to be) and many smaller sites along the way. Because some of the girls I was traveling with had not had Chipotle since leaving the US, we ended up going for a late lunch/early dinner. We happened to be there when one of the owners of all Chipotles in the U.K. was visiting. He asked us our opinions of how the taste compared to the Chipotles back in the U.S., so that was cool! On Tuesday night we went on a pub crawl in the Camden area so it was fun meeting other travelers our age that were visiting London too!
On Wednesday we took pictures at Abbey Road and the Abbey Road Studios...it took us several tries to get the perfect Beatles stance, haha. Afterwards, we made our way to the British Museum and then we walked through Piccadilly Circus which is a major shopping area and also where many of London's theaters are located. We walked by some of theaters that play "Singing in the Rain," "Les Miserables," and a show dedicated to Michael Jackson called "Thriller." Afterwards, we headed to the London Eye for a 30 minute picturesque panorama of the London skyline. Despite the rainy weather, it was still beautiful being there at sunset.
On Thursday morning, Jackie and I had to head out of London early to catch our flight to Dublin!
